Europe

 

Europe’s cat café scene has grown rapidly since the continent’s first café, Café Neko in Vienna, Austria, opened in 2012.

Unlike in the United States, where most cat cafés center around adoption, European ones excel in creating warm, cozy spaces with long-term resident cats.

US

 

Cat cafés have spread across the US at an incredible pace, and almost all of them operate with an adoption-first mission. While many states now boast multiple cafés, a handful still don’t have any at all.

Below, you’ll find all the cat cafés in the US, starting with the biggest cat-café hubs and ending with those that have little to none, making it easy to explore each state’s guide.

 

 

Oceania

 

In Oceania, cat cafés exist but are still relatively rare outside of a few urban centers. Australia has the highest number, with several cat cafés in major cities. New Zealand only has a few.

 

 

Asia

 

Asia’s cat café scene grows bigger every year. Japan leads with more than 300 cafés. Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand follow closely behind.

What makes them so popular? Many people live in small apartments that don’t allow pets. Cat cafés offer a way to unwind, destress, and enjoy cat companionship without full-time ownership.

Central and South America

 

Cat cafés are just starting to appear in Central and South America as well. Colombia and Chile now host the most of them.

However, despite growing feline ownership in urban areas, the trend hasn’t fully taken off across the region. This guide is still developing as we continue to track cat cafés across Central and South America.
