Cat cafes let you enjoy coffee and snacks while spending time with adoptable rescue cats, supporting local shelters in the process. In this guide, you’ll find a complete list of all the cat cafes in Alabama, including their locations, opening hours, reservation details, menu options, and what to expect when visiting.
Currently, there are four cat cafes in the state, located in Birmingham, Huntsville, Tuscumbia, and Alabaster.
Southern states are particularly suited to cat cafes. Warm climates contribute to higher stray-cat populations, and many communities are passionate about animal welfare.
These cat cafes help more stray cats find loving homes. That alone is reason enough to visit and support them all.

Cattyshack in Huntsville
Cattyshack opened in 2020 inside the large arts complex known as Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment.
Every cat is a rescue from northern Alabama organizations and is available for adoption. The focus is on giving cats a comfortable, homelike environment where they can meet potential adopters.
Because it is housed within a huge arts center, you can pair your lounge time with browsing artist studios and galleries around the same building.
Unfortunately, Huntsville does not have a rail or metro system, so the easiest way to reach Cattyshack is by car. Once you arrive at Lowe Mill, the café is located inside one of the studio units on the ground floor.
- Address: Cattyshack, 2211 Seminole Dr SW Studio 1062, Huntsville, AL 35805, United States.
- Opening hours: Thursday, 12:00 pm – 04:00 pm. Friday and Saturday, 12:00 pm – 06:00 pm. Closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Sundays.
- Price: $14 for 1 hour.
- Reservations: Visits require an online reservation.
- Menu: Coffee, tea, soft drinks, beer, wine, and pastries.

Colbert County Cat Cafe in Tuscumbia
The Colbert County Cat Cafe opened in mid-2024 and is run directly by the local animal shelter. All cats come from the shelter’s intake and are fully adoptable. Instead of a traditional cafe model, the space serves as a home-style meet-and-greet area for people to interact with the cats.
The lounge includes towers, bridges, and an outdoor deck to give cats space to relax. Because it is located on the shelter grounds, it functions as an extension of their adoption program.
The shelter often hosts adoption events, volunteer gatherings, and community activities connected to the cat cafe space.
There is no public transit in Tuscumbia, though, so it’s best to take the car.
- Address: Colbert County Cat Cafe, 5010 Missouri St, Tuscumbia, AL 35674, United States.
- Opening hours: Tuesday to Friday, 11:00 am – 05:00 pm. Saturday, 11:00 am – 03:00 pm. Closed on Mondays and Sundays.

Gatos and Beans in Birmingham
Gatos & Beans opened in 2019 as Alabama’s first cat cafe.
All cats come from a no-kill, cage-free rescue, and every cat in the lounge is adoptable. The cafe was created specifically to help rescued cats socialize and move into permanent homes.
It sits in Birmingham’s Avondale neighborhood, in a converted building that once housed a tire store. The area is easy to reach by car, and parking is available nearby. The cafe is part of a walkable block with restaurants and shops close by.
Gatos & Beans also hosts occasional small events such as private group sessions, themed nights, and community gatherings designed to support local rescue efforts.
- Address: Gatos and Beans, 4348 3rd Ct S, Birmingham, AL 35222, United States.

The Lotus Catfe in Alabaster
The Lotus Catfe opened in 2023 and partners with a local rescue to provide adoptable cats with a calm, homey environment. The space blends cat lounging with wellness activities, including yoga sessions that often feature cats roaming freely during class.
The Catfe is best reached by car. It sits in a small commercial strip with its own suite number, making it easy to find once you pull in.
Events here often include yoga classes, special holistic workshops, and occasional community activities that help promote the rescue cats staying in the lounge.
- Address: The Lotus Catfe, 7895 Hwy 119 Suite 5, Alabaster, AL 35007, United States.
