Cat cafés in Greece: your complete guide to cat-friendly spots in Athens, Rhodes, Zakynthos, and beyond
Cat Café Athens
The Cat Café Athens opened late 2023 in the Thissio neighborhood, a historic and pedestrian-friendly area. Thissio is also home to the highest number of stray cats in Athens.
The café is easily reachable on foot from the Thision Metro station. Around the café, you can explore several of Athens’ historical sites, such as the Ancient Agora, the Temple of Hephaestus, and enjoy views of the Acropolis.
Cat Café Athens works closely with the Ilioupolis Animal Welfare Union, and all resident cats are up for adoption.
Since it is the café’s mission to support shelters and reduce the number of stray cats in Athens, they donate part of their revenu to cat welfare and adoption programs.

Cat Café Zepos Garden in Kalamaki (Zakynthos)
This cat café opened in June 2025 along the coastal stretch of Kalamaki, one of Zakynthos’ best-known resort villages. Kalamaki lies in Laganas Bay, just minutes from the airport and the Zakynthos Marine Park. However, while Kalamaki is popular with tourists, especially in summer, it remains calmer than nearby Laganas.
The cat café itself is a peaceful, charming spot where you can enjoy good food and drinks while spending time with cats, including a much-loved “captain cat” named Zepos.
In fact, Zepos Garden used to be a normal restaurant, established in 1991. While feeding colonies and assisting with TNR programs, the owners, Sakis and Dimitra, repeatedly encountered cats that could not safely return to the streets due to severe injuries, health problems, or their very young age. With fostering limited to their own homes, they chose to transform their restaurant into a space where rescued cats could socialize with people and have a real chance at adoption.
They currently have around 15 cats available for adoption—all vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, microchipped, health-checked, and healthy. You can spend time with them in a separate, enclosed space. “Once a suitable adopter is found, we take care of the entire preparation and travel process ourselves,” says Dimitra.
Cat Café Zepos Garden also offers outdoor seating. This is where the resident cats roam freely.
In addition to the classic café experience, the space hosts yoga with cats, awareness events, and relaxed evenings combining cocktails and feline company.

Food options range from ice cream, pies, baklava, panna cotta, cat-shaped pancakes to quinoa smoothie bowls, salads, pizza, sandwiches, gyros, eggs, and much more.

Cat Café Rhodes in Rhodes Town (Rhodes)
The first cat café of Rhodes is scheduled for a soft pre-launch in March 2026, with the official public opening set for April 1, 2026 (which aligns with the start of the season on the island).
Since Rhodes has thousands of strays, the project was created to help rescued cats find loving homes.
Ten stray cats—provided by different welfare organizations—will move in and live at the café temporarily until they find forever families.
You have the option to adopt or sponsor a cat. The café takes care of everything—from veterinary care to the required rabies vaccination, microchip, and passport—all in compliance with international travel regulations. You can pick up your new companion from Cat Café Rhodes, or let the cat stay there until a travel partner is found. They’re happy to help in both cases.
Everyone is welcome, even if adoption isn’t your goal. There will even be a merchandise shop (and an online shop later on) and a separate area for visitors who simply want a coffee without interacting with the cats. The terrace will also feature a cat playground.
Of course, the cats will have their own private room for whenever they want some quiet time.
Cat Café Rhodes will also host special events, such as yoga with cats, reading hours, and movie evenings.
Since the team is already involved in animal welfare work on Rhodes, they also care for around 30 cats daily during winter, providing food, medical care, and neutering.

- Reservations: They will work with an online booking system to limit the number of guests and avoid stressing the cats. If the café isn’t busy, guests without a booking are welcome to spend time with the cats as well.

Cat Cuddling Café (God’s Little People Cat Sanctuary) in Delfini Bay (Syros)
Set in the quiet and scenic Delfini Bay, the Cat Cuddling Café is just steps from the beach. The café sits within the God’s Little People Cat Rescue Sanctuary and offers a peaceful setting where sea views and feline company come together.
The café is part of a carefully designed garden where the cats live in a cage-free environment.
Founders Joan and Richard Bowell shaped the gardens based on close observation of the cats’ habits. Pathways follow the animals’ natural routes, and the area has a variety of cat-friendly plants.
When you arrive, a cat caretaker will meet you at the gate and offer a guided tour of the gardens to introduce you to the feline residents and tell you their background stories. You can enjoy a drink while you spend time with the cats and take in the surrounding views.
For those curious to learn more, God’s Little People Cat Sanctuary was featured in the 2021 Netflix documentary Cat People, in episode five titled “God’s Little People.”
If you want to stay nearby, you can rent traditional Greek villas through the sanctuary. They offer the same beautiful views and many cats. You can book these through their website (see below).

(The cat café welcomes children accompanied by adult, but they ask that you follow their guidelines to ensure both cats and children are safe.)
