Paws for a Moment in the city center of Málaga is a cat café and co-working space with over 20 resident cats.

You can also use their “Cat Tinder” to browse profiles of rescue cats available for adoption.

They also have a cat café in Estonia, and they will soon be opening another one in Marbella.

Oh My Cat in Sevilla

Located in the Macarena district, just north of Sevilla’s historic center, this adoption-focused cat lounge is run by Ghato Verde, a local rescue association dedicated to helping abandoned cats find new homes. Before or after your visit, you can explore the Basílica de la Macarena, the old city walls, and the Alameda de Hércules with its many cafés, bars, and restaurants.

The cats you meet there have all been rescued — some from the streets, some from cat colonies, and others after being abandoned or surrendered — and they receive veterinary care before joining the lounge.

The space is supported by visitors and volunteers, with entry donations helping cover the cats’ care and Ghato Verde’s rescue work.

  • Address: Oh My Cat, Carmen Martínez Sancho, 14, 41008 Sevilla, Spain.
  • Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 05:30 pm – 08:30 pm. Closed on Mondays.
  • Price: €5 donation per person.
  • Reservations: Reservations are required, as visits are limited to keep the space calm and comfortable for the cats.
  • Menu: Coffee, tea, and soft drinks.

Miau Café in Sevilla

There were plans to establish a cat café to provide local stray cats with opportunities to find new homes. A kickstarter campaign was launched, but the funding goal was never met. They are still looking for ways to make their dream come true.

CatLovers in Huércal de Almería

CatLovers in Huércal de Almería is more of a small, volunteer-run feline space than a conventional café. You can drop in to spend time with the cats, but the main point is adoption: the cats come from rescue situations, including cats found on the streets. The CatLovers team works on socializing those that still feel nervous around people.

You don’t need to be looking to adopt to visit, though. CatLovers even encourages people to come in and interact with the cats because this helps them get used to different visitors. If you do fall for one, the adoption itself is free, and the cats leave vaccinated, dewormed, and identified in their new owner’s name.

The space also keeps things deliberately simple. You choose your drink from the self-service area, find a spot among the cats, and let them decide whether they fancy some attention.

Unfortunately, its location in Huércal de Almería means you’re outside the main tourist center. If you’re staying in Almería city, treat this as a separate little trip.

  • Address: Calle Alhamilla 8, Huércal de Almería, 04230, Almería, Spain.
  • Opening hours: Monday–Sunday, by appointment.
  • Price: €3 per person, including one drink.
  • Reservations: CatLovers currently operates by appointment rather than regular walk-in café hours, so you’ll need to arrange your visit in advance.
  • Menu: Coffee, tea and infusions, Cola Cao, smoothies, juices and soft drinks.
  • Adoption: All of the cats are candidates for adoption, although some need more time to socialize with people. Adoption is free and includes the cats’ basic veterinary treatments.

Cat Relax in Alicante

Alicante is a popular tourist destination on the southeastern coast of Spain. Its cat café, Cat Relax, is quite unique as it is run by an animal shelter, ABAIFA. That means all the cats in the café are up for adoption.

Beyond just enjoying a cup of coffee in the company of these furry friends, Cat Relax goes the extra mile with various activities like cat yoga and cat care workshops. They even provide a cat daycare service.

The café is located near Alicante’s city center, so it’s easy to combine with Alicante’s old town, the Santa Bárbara Castle, the Central Market, the Explanada de España, and the waterfront.

  • Address: Cat Relax, Pl. Joaquín María López, 7, 03009 Alicante, Spain.
  • Opening hours: Open from 06:00 pm – 08:00 pm. Closed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays.
  • Price: €7 per person for 1 hour, or €13 per person for 2 hours. Both options include a complimentary drink and cat treats.
  • Reservations: Reservations are required.
  • Menu: Coffee, tea, and soft drinks.

El Pasatge Dels Gats in Valencia

The café opened in 2017 and works with the animal association ADAANA to help abandoned and rescued cats find families. If you’re looking to adopt a cat, El Passage Dels Gats is a wonderful spot to get to know them while enjoying a cup of coffee and a slice of cake.

Its location near Valencia’s Botanic Garden and the historic Torres de Quart also make it a great stop while exploring some of Valencia’s most charming neighborhoods.

Pingu Cat Cafè in Terrassa

Located about 30 kilometers northwest of Barcelona, Pingu Cat Cafè opened its doors in 2022.

The idea came from Alfonso Del Pino and Núria Lacueva, who wanted to create a space that works like a temporary home for cats rather than just a café with cats. The cats come from rescue organizations, live freely inside the café, and stay there until they find a family.

The café is a good option if you want to explore a more local side of Catalonia. Terrassa has plenty to see beyond the cat café, including the medieval Torre del Palau, the Romanesque churches of Sant Pere, and Vallparadís Park

  • Address: Pingu Cat Cafè, Carretera de Montcada, 155, 08221 Terrassa, Barcelona, Spain.

Polineko itself focuses on rescued cats and adoption. It gives you the chance to meet cats that are looking for homes while they spend time in a calm, social environment. Instead of choosing a cat based only on a photo, you can sit with them, see their personalities, and find out which ones you connect with.

Cat cafés on the Balearic Islands

Café Gato Ibiza

There was some buzz going around for a while about the upcoming Café Gato Ibiza, which would have been the first cat café on the island. The plan was to create a safe place inside the café for about ten stray cats from Ibiza at a time. This way, they could socialize and get used to home conditions, improving their chances of finding a forever home. They launched a Kickstarter campaign, but unfortunately, the project didn’t hit its funding goal.

Cafè i Bigotis in Palma, Mallorca

Yet another cat café that never came to be. Cafè i Bigotis in Palma de Mallorca has a social media presence and a website for reservations, but it’s nowhere to be found at the provided address (Plaça del Bisbe Berenguer de Palou, Palma 07003, Mallorca). The phone number is disconnected, and they don’t bother responding to emails.

Looking on the bright side, Mallorca has plenty of other fantastic spots with cats that every cat lover should check out.
