Cat cafes in Thailand are popping up faster than ever, and it’s easy to see why. People love a good coffee break with a side of cuddly cats.

The idea started back in 1998 in Taiwan, and now Thailand has fully embraced it. Bangkok alone has around 16 cat cafés, and that number just keeps growing.

But with so many to choose from, how do you know which ones are actually worth visiting?

I asked travel bloggers to share their favorite cat cafés around Thailand, and they came back with some great picks.

Here’s what made the list.

Five best cat cafés in Thailand

Cat ‘n’ A Cup Café in Chiang Ra

Cat 'n' A Cup Cat Café in Chiang Ra Thailand

Traveling through SE Asia for several months we were missing our kitties, and in need of some nuzzling and furbaby love. Suddenly, walking along the main street of Chiang Rai in northern Thailand, we came across this cool café with cats sleeping in the windows. I’d never actually seen a cat café before!

Cat ‘n’ A Cup Cat Café is pretty popular, and entry is limited to a few customers at a time so the felines can enjoy their peaceful space without being stressed. The cats are super cute and, like all cats, ignore human presence until curiosity overcomes nonchalance, and then they’ll wander up for a quick caress or a lap to sleep in.

Some 30 furry residents of all ages and breeds are lounging around the bright spacious room, playing on climbing frames or just chilling in boxes and baskets, the way cats do.

Although all cats are gorgeous, my heart melts when I see pure white ‘Kuching Cats’ – the way that they look at you with their inquisitive eyes (one eye is emerald green and the other bright blue, a startling combination due to their genes). At Cat ‘n’ A Cup Café, there’s a short-haired cutie who looks like a Khao Manee, and two fluffy long-haired sweethearts who resemble our European Persian.

So, if you’re up in Chiang Rai, pop in and enjoy an iced Thai tea or cup of coffee with a slice of cake, and relax for an hour or two in good company.

Address: Cat ‘n’ A Cup Café, 596/7 Phaholyothin Rd, Tambon Wiang, เมือง Chiang Rai 57000, Thailand.

Caturday Cat Café in Bangkok

Caturday Cat Café in Bangkok Thailand

Caturday Cat Café is a cozy corner of cat-themed bliss in the central Ratchathewi district, around 8 km from the new Bangkok train station. This charming cat café is a must-visit for any cat lover in Bangkok. You must pay a 200 baht deposit (per person) to get a 90-minute access. You will use this deposit to order the food and drinks. You can also buy special treats for 40 baht to feed the cats.

Upon entering, you must remove the shoes and wash your hands (there’s a sink in the entrance area). Cats are well cared for and roam freely among cozy corners, cat bridges, and comfy cushions. There are strict rules to ensure their well-being: no feeding (except for the special treats), no disturbing sleeping cats, no picking up the cats, and only gentle petting.

The menus contain all the cat names with their photos, so you’ll know exactly how to approach a kitty.

Purr Cat Café Club in Bangkok Thailand

The Purr Cat Café Club is a place where you’ll eagerly spend hours, enjoying the company of 14 resident cats while sipping your coffee. The café is adorned with delightful cat-themed decorations and charming pure-bred cats, creating a euphoric atmosphere for cat enthusiasts like myself.

What stood out about Purr Cat Café Club was the extensive selection of cat-themed food and drinks.

There is no admission fee to enter the Purr Cat Café Club in Bangkok, but the prices of food and beverages are slightly higher than typical cafés (starting around THB100). However, the experience is undoubtedly worth the expense.

Address: Purr Cat Café Club, Soi Sukhumvit 53 Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok, Thailand.

Chosen by Jonathon from the travel blog Artifactstravel.com.

Asok Penthouse Bangkok

Bangkok’s Asok Pethouse Café is a cat café on a mission. Serving as a foster home for a local shelter, the café seeks to bring awareness to cat adoption and rescue. Most resident cats (around 20 in total) are available to be adopted. Almost 90 have found homes thanks to the café.

Like the sunglasses-wearing cat in its logo, the café cultivates a chill, hip atmosphere. It boasts two levels with three large cat rooms (only one or two cats are allowed to roam outside the rooms). The cats are all very well behaved and friendly with people.

Patrons must spend a minimum of 150 Thai Baht per hour at the café – not hard to meet with the large selection of desserts and beverages.

The café is conveniently located a couple blocks from the Asok BTS station and Terminal 21 shopping mall.
