Katzenlounge Ciaou Mau in Chermnitz
Franziska Müller’s inspiration to open Katzenlounge Ciaou Mau came during a visit to Crazy Cat Cafe in Milan, where she realized she could combine her love of baking and cats into a business. Her dream took shape on February 15, 2023, and Chemnitz gained its first cat cafe.
The cats come from an animal shelter that received a large group of cats from one household. Müller quickly arranged a contract to bring five British Shorthair cats to the cafe. These feline residents include Shuri, two males named Sören and Bruno, and two females, Fine and Elfriede. The cats roam freely through the cafe but have access to a separate room for rest, food, and litter boxes.
Katzenlounge Ciao Mau has since become a popular spot in Chemnitz. Franziska bakes four to five cakes daily, with cheesecakes in various flavors being the most loved. Waffles and crepes are also on the menu, though cupcakes are supplied by a specialist.
To maintain a calm atmosphere, there’s no music—just the soft sounds of contented cats and happy guests.
Guests often come from far away to experience this cozy space and its furry residents.
