Cat cafés in Alberta
Cat Café On Whyte in Edmonton, Alberta
Imagine sipping your favorite latte while being serenaded by the gentle purrs of feline friends. Welcome to the purr-fectly charming Cat Café on Whyte in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada!
This quaint café in the trendy neighborhood of Old Strathcona was the first cat café in the capital city. Walking through the main door, you’ll check in with the friendly baristas and pay the entry fee. This amount goes towards buying litter, paying rent, staff, etc.
The cat café supports the local community in more ways than one; the beans are all locally roasted, making that latte with cute cat-print art extra sweet.
With a coffee and a cookie in hand, you’ll remove your shoes and wash your hands before visiting with the eight permanent foster cats from SAFEteam Volunteer Non-Profit Shelter (adoption also available).
The café feels incredibly home-like, with many hiding places, cozy beds for the kitties, and plenty of comfy seating for the humans.
There is a free parking lot just around the back of the building.
Be sure to stop by and say hello!

The café works mainly with Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue, which supplies the adoptable cats and supports their move into permanent homes. The focus stays firmly on giving people a calm, low-pressure way to meet these rescue cats.

Catfé in Vancouver, British Columbia
Vancouver’s first cat cafe, Catfé, opened in 2015 and helped over 1000 cats get adopted.
They’re located in International Village Mall (Floor 1) outside Chinatown. The easiest way to get there is to take the SkyTrain to Stadium Chinatown Station and walk less than five minutes to the mall.
Since Catfé was the first cat cafe in Vancouver, it has established a lot of popularity, so there are more things to do while visiting the cats, such as cat yoga, after-dark disco parties, comedy nights, and painting and drawing workshops.
But if you’re not interested in activities, you can choose a 55-minute or 30-minute morning-only weekday visit.
All the cats are available for adoption unless they state pending adoption or are in foster care. It’s a fairly open space with everything cats need and love.
There’s a separate area to buy small snacks for yourself, drinks like coffee or tea, and shop all things cats.
Once you go through that process, you can check in at the cat counter and be given instructions before you visit the cats.
- Address: Catfé, UNIT #2035 – SECOND FLOOR, INTERNATIONAL VILLAGE MALL, 88 W Pender St, Vancouver, BC V6B 6N9, Canada.
- Opening hours: Open daily from 11:00 am to 08:00 pm.
- Price: CA$17,80 for 55 minutes.
- Reservations: Reservations are recommended for lounge visits because the space fills up fast. Walk‑ins are sometimes possible if slots are available.
- Child policy: Children must be 5 years or older. Those between 5 and 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Not more than 2 children per adult.
- Menu: A fully vegetarian menu with a range of vegan and gluten-free options, such as cookies, pizza pretzels, cat‑themed macarons, and various seasonal cakes.

Catoro in Vancouver, British Columbia
Another popular cat café in Vancouver is Catoro. I had never been to a cat café before I went to Catoro, and I enjoyed my experience. They’re also more relaxed and don’t offer the same activities as Catfe. But if you prefer to only interact with the cats and not do any activities, I suggest Catoro.
The easiest way to get to Catoro is by SkyTrain to Commercial Broadway, take the 99 bus, and get off at Broadway and Fraser Street.
When you first arrive, you’ll check in and be able to order drinks while waiting for your timeslot.
Before you enter the room, you will be given instructions and rules. You’ll be asked to remove your shoes and change them into slippers or wear your socks.
The session is a 50-minute visitation time with the cats. The cats are in a reasonably large room with many toys, cat trees, and other various items that cats enjoy. All the cats are adoptable unless they state that adoption is pending or in foster care.
There’s also a viewing window where you can see the cats in the large room below. You can bring your drinks into the room with the cats.
- Address: Catoro, 666 E Broadway, Vancouver, BC V5T 1X6, Canada.
- Opening hours: Tuesday to Wednesday, 01:00 pm – 08:00 pm. Thursday, 12:00 pm – 06:00 pm. Friday, 11:00 am – 06:00 pm. Saturday, 11:00 am – 09:00 pm. Sunday, 11:00 am – 06:00 pm. Closed on Mondays.

Excalipurr Cat Café in Regina, Saskatchewan
Excalipurr Cat Café is located in the heart of Regina and blends a casual café with a dedicated cat lounge where you can enjoy drinks, food, and feline company all in one visit.
The café works with local rescue partners, most notably SCRAPS from Moose Jaw, to bring in adoptable cats that live in the lounge and are available for adoption. All of the cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and cared for through the café’s partnership with the rescue. You’ll usually find around 15–20 cats in the space during normal hours, with plenty of furniture, hammocks, and cozy spots for them to explore and nap.
Regina Transit buses run along Albert Street, with several stops close to the café’s location. There is also street parking nearby if you plan to drive.
The café’s central location makes it easy to combine with other downtown Regina activities like visiting Wascana Center or browsing shops and restaurants along 13th Avenue.
