What makes Java Whiskers stand out from other cat cafés?

“We share a similar concept with other cat cafés in Sweden in that our primary focus is helping stray cats find forever homes,” Amanda says.

“However, the unique charm of Java Whiskers lies in our commitment to providing a warm haven for both cats and coffee lovers seeking a cozy café atmosphere.”

What are the origins of Java Whiskers?

“Java Whiskers was founded in 2019 in Sweden by two individuals who saw a need for a cat café to elevate the status of cats and help as many of them as possible,” Amanda says.

“However, our dedication goes beyond just finding homes for homeless cats. Java Whiskers focuses not only on facilitating feline adoptions but also on reducing human stress levels. Humans feel very good when spending time with animals.”

How does the cat adoption process work at Java Whiskers?

“Currently, we have nine cats at Java Whiskers Stockholm. They are all potential candidates for adoption,” Amanda says.

“You can express interest through our website. This then goes to our partner, the cat rescue & adoption center Djurens Chans. They select suitable adopters for interviews, and then the cat is tinged. After the whole process is completed, the cat is allowed to move to its new home.”

Are the cats getting along?

“All cats usually get along well with each other,” Amanda says.

“We work every day with the cats and their behavior. If we notice that a cat does not get along with another cat, we find a solution to that problem.”

“Our menu includes coffee, pastries, and a variety of vegan options,” Amanda says.

“Additionally, we offer a lighter food menu featuring grilled sandwiches, soup, and pies for those looking for a heartier meal.”

What are the different events at Java Whiskers?

“Monday nights are for yoga,” Amanda says. “You can join us and the cats for a one-hour yoga class, followed by 30 minutes of cuddle time with our feline residents.”

“After class, we offer tea for those who want to enjoy an extra moment of coziness.”

Children under ten need a training course to enter Java Whiskers. What does it involve?

“Children aged between six and nine get the chance to take this course. It contains lessons about the cat’s body language and our rules,” Amanda explains.

“Then, all the participants get to meet the cats alongside the course leader. Upon approval and adherence to our rules, the child and their family are welcome to visit,” she continues.

“While there is a course fee, the popularity of this offering highlights its success in providing a unique and educational experience for younger cat enthusiasts.”

  1. Ohh myy, looking over the #PoCoLo links, I couldn’t resist the ginger tabby! I’ve never been to a cat cafe, but I’d like to. I did the math, even though I won’t be going to Sweden any time soon. For $26 I could spend nearly 2 hours there on a weekday. What a beautiful way for someone to choose a cat to adopt or for someone who can’t have a pet himself to enjoy the company of cats while enjoying a kanelbullar and cup of tea.
