“This has got to be the cutest story of the week,” exclaims The Dubrovnik Times, after a clowder of cats on the Stradun earned themselves a spot on Santa’s naughty list.
Each winter, the historic Croatian city lights up with Christmas spirit. The famous Stradun fills with glowing decorations, cozy wooden stalls, and a massive Christmas tree. The smell of mulled wine and grilled sausages drifts through the air as locals and tourists bundle up to enjoy live music and holiday events.
But while people celebrate, some unexpected troublemakers show up—the city’s cats. And they have one goal: take down the Christmas trees.
Photographer Zeljko Tutnjevic caught one of these furry vandals in the act. A curious cat stopped to stare at the twinkling ornaments, then leapt at them without hesitation.
Turns out, this cat isn’t the only one. Across Dubrovnik, cats keep turning holiday trees into playgrounds, proving once again that no Christmas tree is safe from a playful cat.
