There are plenty of cats in Port de Sóller, Mallorca. One place where you’ll find LOTS of them is on Carrer de Bèlgica. That’s where my cousin Kate lives and where I stayed for a week. Like so many other properties in Mallorca, her apartment comes with an outdoor pool. It quickly became my favorite spot to relax, catch up on some blog work, and soak in the Mediterranean sunshine.

The apartment is tucked into a beautiful valley surrounded by the Tramuntana Mountains. The scenery is incredible—think orange groves, olive trees, and winding hiking trails in every direction.

It didn’t take long to realize that the place was home to many cats. Some lounged in the shade, others wandered by now and then. Most of them were curious but clearly used to having humans around.

Let’s meet some of these furry companions.

The first one to catch my attention was a Persian cat, who would swiftly scamper away whenever I approached to take his picture.

Moments later, a second cat arrived – a long-haired black kitty.

Unlike its elusive Persian counterpart, this one was remarkably sociable. After a few minutes of getting to know one another, this cat chose to make itself at home on the sun lounger adjacent to mine and quickly relocated to a new spot near my feet.

There was a third cat, a white one with black spots.

However, this timid feline seemed hesitant to venture further into the property. Whenever it approached, the other two cats chased it away, establishing a dynamic that excluded the black-spotted cat from joining their camaraderie.

If you want to meet these cats in person, head to Carrer de Bèlgica 2 in Port de Sóller, Mallorca.

By the way, these gatos aren’t just hanging out by the pool. The whole street is full of cats!

If you stop by the restaurants Sol y Sombra and Bellamé, you’ll meet a bunch of furry friends.

These restaurants are favorites among the local feline crowd.  They weave in and out of tables and seek attention and affection from kind-hearted patrons like yourself.

Unfortunately, some of these kitties are in pretty bad shape. If you share a small portion of your meal with the homeless cats, they will undoubtedly appreciate it. It contributes to their well-being and provides a moment of joy amidst their streetwise adventures.
