Cat cafes in Thailand
Bangkok ranks as one of Thailand’s top travel and tourism hubs. The city pulls visitors in with famous landmarks, nonstop entertainment, and energetic shopping districts where you can sample local food.
But Bangkok offers more for cat lovers than temples and malls. The city has also built a reputation for its cat cafes.
For many of us, resisting such a cafe feels nearly impossible.
You can easily spend hours there, sipping coffee, petting friendly cats, and playing with them in a relaxed, welcoming space.
The concept originated in Taiwan. However, they have since spread across Asia and now appear in cities around the world.
Most of these cafés put their cats first. They focus on proper care, comfort, and stimulating environments that keep the cats healthy and relaxed.
My experience at the Purr Cat Cafe Club in Bangkok
As I planned my trip to Bangkok, I stumbled across a blog post about cat cafes in Japan. The timing felt perfect—I had been seriously craving some quality cat time.
I started researching the best cat cafes in Bangkok, and Purr Cat Cafe Club quickly stood out as one of the top choices.
My previous experience with a cat cafe in Berlin had left me underwhelmed – a scanty cat presence and a dysfunctional coffee maker dashed my hopes.
However, Purr Cat Cafe Club was a complete contrast.
Inside its cozy space, 14 beautiful cats roamed freely. Some couldn’t wait to interact with visitors, while others carried themselves with that classic, charming feline indifference.
The rules
Purr Cat Cafe Club has several rules in place, all designed to keep both visitors and cats safe and happy.
Upon entering, you have to sanitize your hands and slip on the provided slippers to keep things clean. Also you can’t disturb cats that are sleeping, and you have to skip the flash photography.
The interior
Actress Rattanarat Uataweekul is the creative force behind Purr Cat Cafe Club in Bangkok.
Her love for cats shows in every corner, with adorable cat-themed decorations that make it the perfect spot for memorable photos.
As a cat lover, I couldn’t help but feel a little giddy just being there.
One area features a fascinating “cat walk”—an elevated pathway where cats lounge, stroll, and strike poses. They claim their territory with flair, sprawling across furniture and showing off their confident, playful personalities.
The cafe’s interior space is artfully divided into distinct zones, including a dedicated salon area for health maintenance, grooming, and bathing.
The cats in the cafe have their own, private spaces, too. They can interact with you if they choose to, or retreat for some solitary moments.
To the left of the entrance, there is also a room that doubles as a gift shop, housing cat-themed treasures and the occasional slumbering feline. They also have several books, including Misao The Big Mama And Fukumaru The Cat.
The resident cats
I settled onto a low table on the carpet and watched the cats move around the space.
Purr Cat Cafe Club houses 14 cats, with Persians making up the largest group. Each cat has its favorite spots.
You are welcome to take photos, but flash photography is discouraged to protect the cats’ comfort and well-being.
You aren’t allowed to wake sleeping cats or pick them up, but many were happy to interact and play.
I spent my time switching between watching them, playing, cuddling, and taking photos. The experience left me in a noticeably better mood. That’s the magic of cats.
Of course, keeping them out of my bag proved impossible. Apparently, they already knew I keep plenty of cat toys at home.
The cafe wasn’t just popular with women, though. Men were just as interested, equally drawn to the cats and their playful antics.
Food and drinks
One thing I thought was especially great about Purr Cat Cafe Club was the comprehensive selection of food and drinks. The only other cat cafe I can think of that’s on par with this would be Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in London.
I was specifically drawn to the cat-themed cakes and lattes. Don’t they look adorable?
