Massachusetts is a densely populated state, especially around Boston, so you’d think there would be more cat cafes. However, there are currently only four cat cafes in Massachusetts, two of which have opened in 2025. Blame it on the high rent, tricky liability insurance, and strict health regulations.

This regularly updated guide will give you all the details regarding cat cafes in the Bay State—addresses, opening hours, reservation info, and what to expect so you can plan the purr-fect visit!

A SanctuaryCafe in Boston

A Sanctuary Cafe in Boston is not your average cat cafe—it’s a cozy little micro-bookstore and coffee shop with cats!

The kitties here have made the cafe their permanent home. This makes it one of the few cat cafes in the US where the cats are not adoptable.

You can enjoy your coffee and pastries in the cat lounge, but for health reasons, the cats aren’t allowed where food and drinks are prepared.

The bookstore itself is tiny but carefully curated—every book has been read and reviewed by the booksellers. While you’ll find plenty of cat-themed reads, they stock books in other genres too. Plus, they give back: for every book purchased, they donate a book to a Boston Public Schools student.

If you love books, coffee, and spending time with adorable cats, A Sanctuary Cafe might just be your new favorite spot on your Boston itinerary!

Camelot Cat Cafe sits just beyond Greenfield’s compact downtown, which is known for its independent businesses, arts venues, and longstanding role as a regional hub for the surrounding hill towns.

The lounge is home to six rescue cats that live permanently at the cafe. They were taken in from a variety of circumstances, including cases where previous owners were no longer able to care for them. These cats are not available for adoption.

The owners have stated that a future partnership with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Regional Dog Shelter (which also handles animal intake and transfers) would eventually allow the cafe to house shelter cats that could be adopted out.

Kitty Cat Cafe and Adoption Lounge in Peabody

After losing their beloved cat Isabella during the pandemic, married couple Cora and Uri started fostering cats and helping them find forever homes. That experience inspired them to open a cat cafe in their own community, creating a space where people can relax and connect with adoptable cats.

The cafe is home to about 12 cats, aged 1 to 14 years. They do not take in cats under 8 months old, but anyone looking to adopt a kitten can visit their rescue partners, PALS Animal Lifesavers and PAWS Wakefield.
