The Swedes are a bit behind when it comes to cat cafés. Despite the country’s renowned Fika culture (a Swedish tradition of taking a break with coffee and pastries), the number of cat cafés in Sweden can still be counted on one hand. Nonetheless, here’s a regularly updated list of all the cat cafés (or “kattcafé sverige,” as they are called there) you can find in Sweden. Immerse yourself in the delightful company of cats while enjoying coffee, pastries, and the unique ambiance each café has to offer.

FinduZz Catcafe in Jönköping

Located in the picturesque Småland region of Sweden, Jönköping is known for its traditional red wooden houses and for being the birthplace of the renowned children’s author Astrid Lindgren. It is now also home to the area’s first cat café.

The cat café is inspired by nature and offers visitors the unique opportunity to enjoy a warm beverage in the company of several rescue cats.

FinduZz Catcafe is a particularly important endeavor since Jönköping has been without a cat shelter for several years, and homeless cats gravitate towards foster homes that work hard to restore the cats to their happiest and most authentic selves.

With their partners (Djurens Vänner Värnamo), they look for cats in need of temporary homes. They then keep the animals at the cat café until they find people who want to adopt them. Before making the decision to take them in, visitors can get to know the cats in the café environment, and take one or more coffee breaks with them to see if they are a good match.

Address: FinduZz Catcafe, Nygatan 15, 553 16 Jönköping, Sweden.

Java Whiskers in Stockholm

Founded in 2019 by Swedish entrepreneurs Tobias Larsson, Jon Bäcklund, and Joakim Wessman, Java Whiskers is one of the chicest cat cafés you’ll ever set foot in. The café is all about fireplaces, warm wooden furniture, and plush cushions. And, of course, it also features plenty of climbing structures, perches, scratching posts, and hiding spots to make the resident cats as happy as possible.

Their main aim, however, is to help as many cats as possible – first of all by faciliating adoption but also by educating the audience.

Address: Java Whiskers, , Surbrunnsgatan 48, 113 48 Stockholm, Sweden.

Kattstallet in Skå

Kattstallet in Skå is more a shelter than a cat café, but you can enjoy a coffee in their café compartment while observing through large windows how their cats go about their day. There is also a small shop linked to both the shelter and its café.

It’s important to note that Kattstallet operates under a No Kill policy. Only severely ill cats are euthanized based on veterinary recommendation. They do not euthanize cats solely because they are old, shy, have behavioral problems, or have been at the shelter for a long time.

Address: Kattstallet, Troxhammar byväg 33A, 179 75 Skå, Sweden.

Purrfect Café in Gothenburg

Purrfect Café in Gothenburg is a mix between a cat shelter and a café. You can enjoy coffee, socialize, practice yoga, meditate, hold conferences, meetings, events, or attend courses in a cozy, relaxing environment surrounded by homeless and cared-for cats who temporarily reside at the Purfect Café until they find a forever home.

And the best part – you can apply to adopt the cats!

Another cool aspect about Purrfect Café is they also own a cat hotel where you can leave your own pets while you’re going on vacation.

The founders are trained veterinary nurses and animal caregivers with extensive experience from animal hospitals – you can trust that they fully tailor their work to be cat-friendly.

You support their work to help homeless cats when you visit the cat café, whether you intend to adopt or not.

Address: Purrfect Café, Sveagatan 6A, 413 14 Göteborg, Sweden.

The Cat Corner in Stockholm

The Cat Corner was set to open in 2017 and was supposed to be Sweden’s first cat café, but I think it never actually opened its doors.

The cats wouldn’t have been up for adoption, but founder Dirk Lüders was hoping to raise awareness about homeless cats and the importance of adopting them. He had chosen nine cats that used to be homeless, and that love being around people and other feline friends.
