Meow Cats Café in Aix-en-Provence
What is Meow Cats Café?
Meow Cats Café is a cozy little spot with five resident cats, all rescued from shelters or associations. They’re the overlooked ones who finally get the love and attention they deserve here.
The cats rule the place. The moment you walk in, you’re in their home.
Everything inside celebrates them. Your hot chocolate comes in a cat-themed cup, with matching coaster and spoon.
“We pay attention to the details,” says Morgane, the founder of Meow Cats Café. “Even the toilets have cat-inspired elements.”
Morgane and her dad built everything themselves — the climbing platforms, wall shelves, and even the big exercise wheel for the cats.
She designed the café to feel like home, especially for anyone who adores cats.
The cats
Meow Cats Café is now home to five cats, though it all started with just three.
Morgane recalls, “I first adopted Nioucha, a beautiful tricolor cat, from the Arbois shelter. She’s no longer at the café because she didn’t get along with Dexter. However, she’s now living her best life at my parents’ house.”
Olympe and Opium
After Nioucha came the twin tabbies: Olympe and Opium.
In winter, it’s easy to win their attention. Just put your coat on a chair or bench, and soon enough, a furry little body will curl up on it.
Dexter
Three weeks after opening, Morgane got a call from the shelter: “We think we’ve found your fourth cat. He’s perfect for the café.”
That’s how Dexter arrived — a handsome, sensitive, and affectionate ginger cat.
Morgane met him at the shelter, and it was love at first sight.
Once at the café, Dexter bonded instantly with Opium.
They’ve been inseparable ever since.

But be warned.
Once Dexter starts, he can go on for ages.
Fripouille
A few months later, Morgane heard back from the same association that had rescued the twins. They’d found a five-month-old kitten near the trash.
That was Fripouille, who joined the Meow Cats family in May 2019.
“He needs constant company and loves cuddles,” says Morgane. “Sometimes he jumps on customers without asking, whether they’re sitting or standing. But when he’s tired, he makes it very clear he wants to nap in peace.”
Fripouille was the first cat the café fostered and offered for adoption.
He quickly found a home, but his new owner later told Morgane that he cried all day when left alone.
At the café, he’d never been lonely — always surrounded by his feline friends. So Morgane brought him back.
“At that time, we had four resident cats, since Nioucha went to my parents. And we still fostered others from the same association,” Morgane says.
Over time, Meow Cats Café helped about ten cats find homes. Then COVID hit.
Kida
Between lockdowns, they welcomed Kida, a cat found near a pizza truck and taken in by the same rescue group.
“I planned to offer her for adoption,” says Morgane, “but she adapted so quickly that it felt like she’d always lived here.”
Kida is now the diva of the café.
She doesn’t always want pets, but she always wants attention.
She’ll sit in front of the wheel, meow to get everyone looking, then run and expect applause when she’s done.
“After COVID, I decided to stop fostering,” Morgane explains.
“The constant arrivals and departures were stressing our resident cats. But we still guide people who want to adopt to the shelters and associations we’ve worked with.”
Everything at Meow Cats Café is homemade, from the savory onigiris and grilled cheese sandwiches to the cookies and cakes.
You’ll also find a wide range of drinks: coffee blends, lattes, hot chocolates, teas, homemade lemonades, and even bubble tea.
A short history of Meow Cats Café
Meow Cats Café opened its doors on February 1, 2019.
Before that, Morgane worked for years as a visual merchandiser in Nice.
After work, she often relaxed at a local cat café called La Ronronnerie.
“I loved everything about it; it felt like home,” she says.
One day, she took her parents there. Her dad loved it too and told her, “Why don’t you do this?”
He knew she wasn’t happy in her job, and his question planted a seed.
“So, I decided to move back to Aix-en-Provence, the city where I grew up, to open my own cat café,” Morgane says.
“Aix is full of students, and I thought they’d love the idea. Many of them leave their family homes — and their pets — when they come here to study. I wanted to create a cozy space for them, and for all cat lovers.”
She left her job, completed the training needed to open a cat café, found a location, and got to work building her dream. Then she reached out to local shelters and animal protection groups to find the perfect feline residents for Meow Cats Café.
Who’s behind Meow Cats Café?
“I’m Morgane, I’m 32, and I can’t imagine life without cats,” she says.
“When I moved to Paris for my studies, I adopted a cat before even furnishing my apartment. She’s 12 now and still with me, though she doesn’t come to the café; she’s just not suited for it. I’ve always lived with cats, and they’re the best coworkers I could ask for. They’re part of my family, part of my life.”
Morgane’s love for baking started early. She grew up in her grandmother’s kitchen, surrounded by the smell of cakes and cookies.
Combining her two passions — cats and baking — became her dream. Unlike the cat café in Nice, which featured only purebred cats, Morgane wanted to give a home to the overlooked ones.
Every cat at Meow Cats Café comes from a shelter or rescue.

Reservations
You don’t need to make a reservation.
However, the café isn’t open to children under six to help keep both the cats and young visitors safe.
For the same reason, you can’t bring your own pets.
