In Slovakia, there are currently a few cat cafés, known as “Mačacia Kaviareň” in Slovak. However, they are quite unique compared to many other cat cafés in the world. If you’re in the area and craving some feline companionship, they are definitely worth a visit.
In most of these cat cafés, the animals are rescued from the streets and are available for adoption.

Poprad is a picturesque town at the foothills of the High Tatras mountains in northern Slovakia.
Here, Cat Café Club invites you to come and enjoy a cup of coffee, have a glass of wine, indulge in a cake, and listen to the soothing purring of cats.
Cat Café Club currently has four permanent feline residents. They roam freely within the club’s premises. This is their home, where they play, eat, and sleep.
As a non-profit organization, Cat Café Club leaves it up to their visitors to decide what contribution they want to give Cat Café Club for the drinks and the time spent with cats. A lovely initiative.

Cat Café Mon Ami in Bratislava

Cat Café Mon Ami opened in early 2025 in the riverside part of Bratislava, near Karlova Ves and the Old Town.
The café focuses on rescue work and brings visitors together with cats that need safe and calm homes.
The café currently cares for around 29 rescued cats.
Many came from street situations or from regions affected by war.
Some cats stay at the café permanently. Others can be adopted. Staff guide visitors through the adoption process and explain each cat’s personality and needs.
The menu offers familiar choices such as coffee, tea, lemonades, fresh juices and desserts. Money spent in the café helps pay for food, veterinary care and daily supplies for the animals. Volunteers assist with cleaning, socializing the cats and greeting visitors.

Cats & Coffee Mačacia Kaviareň in Banská Bystrica

For a serene coffee-sipping experience that transports you to a magical realm, you can visit Cats & Coffee, which is nestled among mountain ranges in central Slovakia.
Cats & Coffee crafted their distinctive café design in partnership with fashion designer Viera Futáková. It’s definitely unique, and it highlights the colors of the permanent resident Ragdoll cats.
There are regular opportunities to adopt rescue cats.

Mačacia Prevádzka in Zvolen

Mačacia Planéta works in the center of Zvolen and creates a calm space where people can meet rescued cats. It’s more like a small community shelter than a classic café.
The cats come from different background, and several of them can be adopted. The team explains a cat’s temperament and helps future adopters understand what each animal needs.
When you visit, you can make a small voluntary contribution for entry and basic refreshments. These contributions support the care of the cats, including food, medical treatment and daily supplies. The café also accepts donations such as cat food, litter and toys.

Mačkafé in Bratislava

Mačkafé Bratislava hosts a charming haven for feline enthusiasts and coffee lovers alike. Nestled in the heart of the Slovakian capital, you can enjoy a range of delicious drinks and foods surrounded by an affectionate group of rescue cats.
These adorable feline residents are cute and playful and provide just the right amount of nurture to break up a city visit.
All the staff speak English, and there’s an English menu, too.
What we loved about Mačkafé Bratislava was the rules to protect the cats. It’s obvious that these cats are pampered and genuinely loved. They have a range of toys, beds and wall-mounted amusements to keep them occupied.

Mačkáreň in Pezinok
- Address: Mačkáreň, Holubyho 103/20, 902 01 Pezinok, Slovakia.
- Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00 am – 07:00 pm. Closed on Mondays and Sundays.
Several rescue kittens are awaiting their forever homes at the Mačkáreň cat café in Pezinok, which is approximately 20 kilometers (12.4274 miles) northeast of Bratislava.
All their cats are rescued from the streets or adopted from shelters, and each of them has gone through a challenging fate.
Their civic association, Mačacia labka, in collaboration with Mačky-SOS, actively rescue cats directly from the streets.
They ensure their sterilization or castration, provide them with food, and engage in activities to address the issue of abandoned cats.
Mačkáreň also familiarizes visitors with the issue of abused animals and provides them with as much information as possible.
Tolerant dogs are welcome.

Mačinézy in Bratislava
- Address: Mačinézy, Čajakova 3088/1, 811 05 Bratislava, Slovakia.
- Opening hours: Open daily from 08:30 am – 07:30 pm.
Mačinézy is a somewhat hidden café; you wouldn’t stumble upon it randomly. It’s definitely not as well-known as the previously mentioned Mačkafé either.
The interior is quite cozy. The walls are cream-colored, with paintings and photographs of cats, and they have dark tables and chairs with colorful cushions.
The cats are not in the café itself, but in an adjacent room – a practice common in the US but not in Europe.
Many items here are for sale, and the proceedings go to shelters.

Mňau Kafé in Košice
- Address: Mňau Kafé, Mäsiarska 37, 040 01 Košice, Slovakia.
- Opening hours: Monday to Thursday, 01:00 pm – 08:00 pm. Friday to Sunday, 11:00 am – 08:00 pm.
The interior design of Mňau Kafé in Košice was obviously inspired by the Alice in Wonderland-themed Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in London.
The café offers the opportunity to enjoy refreshment or relaxation in the company of feline friends. The menu includes mainly coffee and homemade cheesecake.

Mňau Kafé in Prešov

In the cat café Mňaukafé in Prešov, you can relax and recharge in the company of two female and two male cats. Their names are Bojka, Moly, Batman, and Benjamín. They reside not in the café itself but in a separate room, but you can join them whenever you want.
