Opened just recently on November 16, 2024, this cat café combines the best of all worlds: adorable kittens, mouthwatering pies, and coffee so good it might just make you forget about the rest of the city.

Whether you’re a cat lover or just in need of a cozy escape, Cup Cats is the purrfect place to unwind.

Why Cup Cats in Brussels is the purrfect cat café

Concept

Have you ever heard of a cat café? It’s exactly what it sounds like—a cozy café where you can enjoy coffee, tea, and snacks while spending time with cats. For cat lovers, it’s a dream come true.

But it’s not just about feline cuddles and cute Instagram pictures. Many cat cafés have a bigger mission: helping rescue cats find their forever homes.

Some cat cafés feature only adoptable rescue cats, especially in the USA, where this is quite common. Others are home to permanent resident cats who live at the café full-time, charming visitors and creating a relaxed, playful atmosphere.

Cup Cats in Brussels, combines the best of both worlds, an idea which owner Sébastien got from his favorite cat café, Chalon de Té in Luxembourg.

Cup cats

The cat café is currently home to several kittens from different breeds, all belonging to Sébastien. It’s a chance for visitors to learn about and get accustomed to these breeds while enjoying the cozy atmosphere of the café.

However, Sébastien plans to introduce adoptable rescue cats into the mix soon, creating a space where people can not only enjoy feline company but also help homeless cats find the loving families they deserve.

“I want to share my love for cats through this café,” Sébastien says, “and hopefully, visitors will fall a little bit more in love with cats as well.”

Why Brussels?

Because, surprisingly, there wasn’t a cat café in the city center.

The only other cat café in Brussels, Le Chat Touille, is located outside the center, which makes it less convenient to visit. On top of that, it’s really small, and since they don’t take reservations, you often end up waiting in line for ages just to get in. On a positive note, Le Chat Touille has done an incredible job of helping countless rescue cats find their forever homes—kudos to them for that!

Another cat café—MangaKat—opened in Brussels in 2015 but closed its doors soon thereafter.

Meet the cats

Of course, the real stars of the café are the resident “cup cats.”

There are currently five kittens of different breeds living at the cat café, each with their own unique personalities. However, the café plans to also welcome adoptable cats from shelters in the future, once all the paperwork is sorted and a shetler partner is found.

Let’s meet the adorable “cup cats:”

Venuzia

This gorgeous black smoke Egyptian Mau, is sweet, gentle, and always ready to play. She’s full of energy and loves to explore.

Victoria

Venuzia’s twin sister, Victoria, is a bit more reserved and loves indulging in naps and the finer things in life. Despite her calmer nature, she’s just as playful, usually letting her little sister take the lead before joining in on the fun.

Urkan

The café’s Bengal is the little warrior and leader of the group. He’s adventurous and loves to “hunt” when playing with the other cats, but he also has a nurturing side and is incredibly protective and caring toward his feline friends.

Vroum Vroum

This minuscule Sphynx cat is a customer favorite. He’s mischievous, often sneaking bites from Ourkane’s bowl, but he’s also incredibly affectionate. In the evenings, you’ll find him cuddling up with Ourkane, as the two are inseparable.

Ulani

Finally, there’s Ulani, a classic Egyptian Mau, one of the oldest and most iconic cat breeds. He took a little longer to adjust to his new home but is now starting to open up and show his affectionate side to visitors.

Menu

The Cup Cats menu is simple and consists of locally-sourced products. All the regular options are available regarding coffee, tea, and soft drinks. Their smoothies are made with 100% Belgian fruit.

They also have a wide variety of hot chocolates with lots of different extra flavors to choose from.

There’s also an irresistible selection of pies and quiches from Tartes Françoise and La Maison des Tartes as well as ice cream and pancake options.

Oh, and the cats have given their stamp of approval to everything on the menu. Keep an eye on your pie, or they might just steal a bite (or more) when you’re not looking!

Reserving beforehand is currently not necessary.

Can children come to Cup Cats?

Yes, but parents must accompany them and ensure they respect the cats’ boundaries and well-being.

Where to stay?

If you don’t mind a short walk, I’d recommend Motel One—it’s only about ten minutes away from Cup Cats. The rooms are comfortable, and the bar and patio have such a cozy vibe, perfect for relaxing after a day out.

Should you visit Cup Cats, the cat café in Brussels?

I can’t think of a single reason why you wouldn’t love this place if you’re a cat lover. It’s conveniently located, there are plenty of cats to hang out with, the pies are amazing, and you can almost always drop in without needing a reservation.

Personally, I’d love to see more vegetarian options and a wider range of hot drinks—like a matcha latte—but that’s just my personal preference.

Oh, and did I mention the kittens? They’re ridiculously cute and incredibly cuddly!
