Finca Son Jorbo is a quaint 17th century farmhouse in Porreres, Mallorca, transformed into an exclusive adults-only bed and breakfast. This hidden gem is renowned for its picturesque setting, welcoming hosts, and feline innkeeper extraordinaire: Gizmo.
Meet the feline innkeeper of the Finca Son Jorbo bed and breakfast in Mallorca

A unique adults-only bed and breakfast in the heart of Mallorca
The bed and breakfast is officially managed by a German couple, Tina and Markus, who previously worked at Audi. However, one day, they made a bold decision to venture into the world of hospitality by opening a bed and breakfast. Initially uncertain about the location, they considered Tuscany and Florida. Yet, fate led them to the island of Mallorca when they heard that a British couple was selling their B&B, Finca Son Jorbo, after successfully running it for 18 years.
Upon their first visit to Mallorca and the bed and breakfast, Tina and Markus fell head over heels for the island’s beauty and the rustic charm of Finca Son Jorbo. They became the new owners, preserving much of the establishment’s beloved character, which has resulted in many returning visitors.

In preparation for their new venture, Tina and Markus (together with the previous owners, Annie and Martin) immersed themselves in the daily operations of Finca Son Jorbo, living on the property for several months. This hands-on experience allowed them to acquire invaluable knowledge about running a bed and breakfast and generate fresh ideas to enhance the guest experience, making it even better than before.
The one “unfortunate” change, however, is the reduced feline population. Under the previous management, Finca Son Jorbo was home to more than ten resident cats (which was the reason I initially visited). However, when the first owners left for Britain, they took all their furry companions with them. Today, there’s just one single cat at Finca Son Jorbo. But let me assure you, Gizmo is not your average cat.

Meet Gizmo, the feline innkeeper extraordinaire
It wasn’t long before a new and rather assertive presence entered their lives. Gizmo, a stray cat, arrived at their doorstep and promptly decided to make Finca Son Jorbo his home.
In a matter of days, Tina and Markus were pushed off the pedestal as the reigning figures of the bed and breakfast. They now had to share the spotlight with the true master of the house: Gizmo.
As Tina explains to me with a smile, “Gizmo is the real boss of Finca Son Jorbo. He’ll always let you know what he wants, and somehow, he unfailingly gets his way.”

Gizmo’s presence is often a highlight of many guests’ experiences at Finca Son Jorbo.
Each morning, he makes his charming appearance at the large wooden al fresco breakfast table. After this, Gizmo embarks on his daily adventures, scouring the nearby olive orchards for rabbits and lizards, followed by a leisurely nap by the swimming pool. Occasionally, he pays a visit to the rooftop to check in on guests residing upstairs, with a special preference for the terrace of one particular apartment, where a generous guest once shared their meal with him.

Gizmo has a penchant for the outdoors, making it the most likely place for guests to encounter him. As Tina describes him, “He’s a natural charmer who goes to great lengths to capture attention and affection.”
However, his sociable nature comes with a touch of jealousy. This is why, despite their love for other pets, Tina and Markus, out of respect for Gizmo’s wishes, don’t allow guests to bring their own animals to the finca. Gizmo’s status as the true boss is unwavering.

Barney
A year ago, a new member joined the family. Meet Barney, a massive and utterly adorable dog. Despite his size and charm, he simply couldn’t compete with Gizmo.
Fortunately, Gizmo and Barney share a harmonious relationship, often collaborating in their own unique ways, even if Barney knows that he comes second when it comes to receiving cuddles.

What sets B&B Finca Son Jorbo apart from other bed and breakfasts in Mallorca?
Although Gizmo and Barney’s continuous presence remains a key attraction at this exceptional bed and breakfast in Porreres, numerous other reasons make Finca Son Jorbo an excellent choice for your stay on the island of Mallorca.
Commitment to sustainability
Agroturismo and environmental responsibility is at the core of the finca’s values. They prioritize waste reduction and separation, as well as the use of locally sourced fruits and vegetables.
Harnessing the abundant sunlight on the island of Mallorca, they’ve integrated photovoltaic systems for energy production. This means they consistently utilize solar energy to provide hot water, maintain air conditioning, and heating during the winter months.
As part of their effort to reduce plastic waste, Finca Son Jorbo offers complimentary drinking water from their on-site water treatment facility, ensuring that you don’t have to purchase water in plastic bottles.
Sustainability is not just a concept here; it’s a way of life.

Tranquility
Porreres offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the tourist hubs of Mallorca. At Finca Son Jorbo, tranquility reigns supreme, with abundant natural surroundings providing a peaceful haven. The property features a variety of outdoor spaces, both communal and private, along with a swimming pool.
It serves as an ideal home base for travelers who want to explore the island of Mallorca by car, but who want to return to a tranquil sanctuary for the night.

Apartments with hotel service
What sets Finca Son Jorbo apart from other bed and breakfasts on the island of Mallorca is its unique offering of real apartments complete with fully-equipped kitchens and several spacious living areas, complemented by top-notch hotel services.
Here, you have the freedom to stay in your apartment and cook your own meals, or join fellow guests for breakfast etc. The finca regularly hosts paella and pizza nights (They have their own pizza oven!) that you’re welcome to partake in, but without any obligation.

Should you prefer to unwind on the premises, there’s a well-stocked bar and a cozy library, offering a selection of beverages, ensuring that you don’t need to venture far when fatigue sets in.
Finca Son Jorbo caters to your every desire, whether it’s arranging private yoga sessions, providing bicycles for exploration, and more.
These versatile amenities have made it a favored destination for digital nomads in search of an extended remote work experience, where the line between relaxation and productivity seamlessly blends.

Breakfast
Breakfast at Finca Son Jorbo is a foodie’s dream-come-true. It offers seven varieties of bread and rolls, homemade jams crafted from figs harvested on the finca’s grounds, fresh fruit salad, house-made yogurt, olive oil from the estate’s own olive groves, local cheeses, Mallorcan ham, eggs, freshly squeezed orange juice, etc.
This morning feast is typically served in the open air, at a spacious wooden table, and in the delightful company of Gizmo.

Accessibility
I’d advise against choosing Finca Son Jorbo as your accommodation if you don’t have a car. Although there are bus routes connecting Porreres to Palma de Mallorca and Felanitx, the bus transportation system in Mallorca can be notably sluggish. Traveling to another city by bus can frequently exceed two hours, making it far from an ideal choice.
Also, the bed and breakfast is situated on the outskirts of Porreres, which can present challenges if you need to run errands without the convenience of your own vehicle.
On the contrary, if you have access to a car, Porreres is as an excellent central point, conveniently positioned amidst all the cities and attractions you’ll want to explore.
