After a market screening of the movie Amok at the Cannes Film Festival, I left the hustle and bustle of the festival behind me to explore the quiet town of Le Cannet.
Just a stone’s throw from Cannes, Le Cannet is a charming town in the Alpes-Maritimes that perfectly blends Provençal charm with stunning Mediterranean views. Its narrow, winding streets are lined with colorful houses and flowers.
But what truly makes this place special is its feline residents that wander the picturesque alleys as if they own them.
If you’re in Cannes and need a break from the crowds, consider visiting Le Cannet.
Here’s a guide on how to spend a day there in the company of its furry friends.
Let’s spend a day with the cats of Le Cannet, France
Begin the day with a scenic stroll through Le Cannet’s Old Town
You can begin your day with a leisurely stroll through Le Cannet’s Old Town.
As you wander through the narrow alleys, you’ll pass many picturesque houses in red, rose, yellow, and orange. Many of these are well-preserved historic buildings, each with its own story to tell.
You will likely want to explore the local shops that line the streets, featuring handicrafts, artisanal products, and souvenirs. However, don’t miss the opportunity to look for the local cats, many of whom will be sleeping in the shade.

If you’re in town on a Tuesday, check out the local market for fresh produce, flowers, and artisanal goods. It’s a great way to experience the town’s charm up close.

Discover colorful art at the Bonnard Museum (Le musée Bonnard)
Many art enthusiasts consider the Bonnard Museum a must-visit in Le Cannet.
The museum is located within the heart of the town. It showcases the paintings, drawings, and prints of its namesake, Pierre Bonnard, a celebrated French artist whose work captures everyday moments and landscapes with lively colors and an interesting play of light. He was a key figure in the Post-Impressionist movement and a founding member of the Nabi group of artists.
You won’t find any cats roaming here, but it’s still well worth a visit for art lovers!

Just a few kilometers from Le Cannet is Parc de la Valmasque.
This natural park has winding trails that lead to breathtaking viewpoints. It’s also a great place to relax with a picnic.
Parc de la Valmasque is home to several stray cats. Bird-watchers will love it too—bring your binoculars and keep an eye out for Eurasian jays, European robins, great spotted woodpeckers, and common chaffinches, among many others.

Le Cannet is the kind of town that invites you to slow down and soak it all in. And there’s no better place to do that than on the sunny terrace of L’Atelier Joseph with a fresh glass of orange juice. It’s a favorite spot—not just for visitors, but for the local cats as well.

For an unforgettable evening experience, head to Le Cannet’s scenic overlook.

As the sun sets and twilight descends upon Le Cannet, I recommend you enjoy the lively atmosphere of the town’s restaurants and cafés. The evening brings with it a lively energy. Locals and visitors gather to soak in the idyllic ambiance and to indulge in food and drinks.
There are several charming bistros that serve traditional French fare but also some trendy establishments that offer fusion cuisine.
