In Breda, just outside the city center, you will find a cozy café where eight shelter cats have found their forever homes.
Kattencafé Familie Snorhaar (which translates as Cat Café “Whiskers Family”) is the purrfect place to enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea and a bite out of their many homemade treats and dishes.
What is a cat café?
In case you wouldn’t know, a cat café is like a hotel for shelter cats, except that they live there. Visitors are being allocated a table where they can relax with the cats while enjoying a drink and delicious food.
The concept originated in Taiwan and Japan. The initial idea was to provide a service to people who are unable to keep their own pets at home (which is often the case in Asian countries).
Nowadays, cat cafés are for everyone who loves cats.
Cat cafés in the Netherlands
Cat cafés have been present in the Netherlands since 2015.
The first Dutch cat café – Kopjes – opened its doors in Amsterdam. Since then, such Dutch cities as Tilburg, Nijmegen, Groningen, Leiden, The Hague, Zwolle etc also host establishments where you can have a drink surrounded by cats.
Kattencafé Familie Snorhaar
Kattencafé Familie Snorhaar resembles a large living room, complete with cat furniture, scratching posts, and cat toys.
It is the ideal forever home of Bobbie, Ollie, Masja, Harry, Boris, Cleo, Stella, and Luna.

The cats have all been carefully selected for their character and traits to ensure that these cats are people-oriented and attention-loving. They enjoy living in a group, and they are comfortable staying indoors.
In addition, the cats can always retreat to their “cats only” room, when they want to have some time alone.
Are the cats available for adoption?
Unfortunately – unlike many other cat cafés – the cats of Kattencafé Familie Snorhaar are not up for adoption.
The reason behind this is that the group composition would constantly change, which is very stressful for cats.
However, if a cat does not feel at home at Kattencafé Familie Snorhaar, the owners of the café will make sure that the unhappy feline gets a new home.
If you love cats, we can’t recommend a visit to Kattencafé Familie Snorhaar enough.
More things to do at the cat café
If the idea of spending several hours in the company of these lovely cats isn’t enough, know that Kattencafé Familie Snorhaar is also organzing regular activities, such as yin yoga, game nights, and workshops.
Also, they have the most delicious loaded nachos – made with shredded jackfruit, cheddar, sour cream, and vegetables – which you can try during the café’s Catty Hour, each Friday from 02:00 pm to 05:00 pm.
The café even has several books for you to read and flip through, including the feline supernatural thriller Clowders.
Make a reservation
Kattencafé Familie Snorhaar can get crowded, so reserving a table is recommended.
This reservation costs 2,50 euros and allows you to stay for two hours.
In that time, you can eat and/or drink something tasty and, of course, cuddle with the cats.
Afterwards, other visitors get the chance to take a seat in the cafe. Of course, on quiet days, you can stay longer.
